We want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who participated, sponsored, and donated to the 2nd Annual Cup-Cake Wars!

From 69 News: Hundreds of cupcakes and more than a dozen competitors descended upon the Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing for the second annual Cup-Cake Wars to benefit the Restoring Hope Foundation.

For many competitors, it’s a battle line drawn not in chalk, but buttercream icing.

“Tanya and I work together in the same market, so we constantly have this little competition going on,” said Paula Fish, with Bunny’s Bakery

Four feet is the distance between the Tropical Bakery table and the display by Bunny’s Bakery. The small space is part of the strategy and the challenge as the bakers try to protect their highly classified secrets.

“I keep telling her like can I just take some,” said Tanya Melendez with Tropical Bakery.

“She’ll come over and say, ‘What are you making today?’ and I’ll say, ‘What are you making today?” explained Fish.

From a rivalry forged at the Shillington Farmers Market to the Crowne Plaza Hotel for the second annual Cupcake Wars, the rivalry is secondary, as the fixing up of cupcakes will ultimately lead to fixing up a home for a local family, courtesy of the Restoring Hope Foundation.

“We’re designed for middle class working families who have a special need or a special circumstance,” explained Diane Salks with Restoring Hope Foundation. “About 90, 95 percent of our build is donations of product and labor, but there are just things you have to buy.”

As for Melendez and Fish, they’re happy for the opportunity to up their sugar-filled artistry in front of more people.

“I know what she’s good at and she knows what I’m good at,” said Fish.
